Versatile Pointing and Retrieving Dogs
Our pointing dogs are first and foremost hunting partners. A good pointing dog must also be willing and able to retrieve a downed bird, be it quail, pheasant, dove, duck or goose. We, as good trainers, must be willing to work with our versatile dogs in all aspects of their hunting expectations. That includes the trained retrieve. As we participate in hunt tests, the requirement to retrieve to hand in the upper levels is sure to come. It is something we don't want to leave to chance. Just because your dog loves to retrieve a tennis ball doesn't mean a warm bird will be treated the same way. We at LSWC occasionally present retrieving, as well as, pointing dog workshops. Did you know that our gun dogs can also participate in AKC and UKC retrieving hunt tests? One of our club's Weimaraners was actually the first of our breed to achieve the AKC Senior Hunter Retriever with 5 straight passes! The games are fun for us and our dogs. Please click on the AKC/UKC and other retrieving dog requirement comparisons. Let us know if you have an interest in participating in one of our retrieving dog workshops!
